Over the 1800s and 1900s it moved through various church buildings, and in 1970 merged with Boston’s oldest congregation to become part of what’s now called the First Church. J. L. Richard Devens, who watched for the signal in Charlestown, described it as coming from the upper window of a church, which could only be the Old North Church.<br /><br />There was a debate in the 1870s over whether Revere actually meant the Old North Meeting-House, and periodically people revive the argument in its favor, but the evidence points the other way. It was also a gathering place for the sons of Liberty.
