The New England Historic Genealogical Society has posted an
online display of four items from its collections related to Independence Day. There’s a letter from
John Hancock, a 1778 militia muster roll submitted to his younger brother Ebenezer, Samuel Hovey’s poorly spelled but enthusiastic description of the first reading of the
Declaration of Independence in New York, and an almanac-diary entry recording its publication in Massachusetts. Slow downloading today.
