Dissecting the Corpus in Connecticut

It looks like there are still a lot of details to be worked out, but on 18-20 September the University of Connecticut’s History Department will host a graduate-student conference on “Corpus Americanus: Deciphering Bodies in Early America.” The program includes:

• Nathan Perl-Rosenthal & Victoria Philips Geduld, Columbia University: “The Power of a Minuet: Social Dance and Political Hierarchy in Revolutionary America, ca. 1760s-1790s”
• Samantha Hall Dorsey, Winterthur Program in American Material Culture: “The Physical Philosophy of Stays in Eighteenth-Century America”
• Lauren Gray, Florida State University: “Women Rightly Instructed About Their Bodies: Science, Religion, and Gender in Eighteenth-Century New England”

The American Antiquarian Society co-sponsors this event. There’s no charge to register, though one can buy into the dinner on Thursday night.
